What is the TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) and what are the potential consequences if the deal is passed? How will it affect the current state of public services and any future legislation on privacy, food and environmental safety standards, and banking regulations? And lastly, who exactly votes on whether or not it passes? Join us for a timely discussion on the TTIP with researcher and activist Linda Kaucher. This event forms part of our People and Politics series, which aims to explore some of the urgent political and social issues facing both young and old in the UK and beyond. The TTIP, if passed, would be the largest free trade deal between the US and the EU of its kind. Despite its historical significance and the potentially enormous consequences the deal could have should it be enacted, much of the conversations and negotiations that have shaped its content have been conducted covertly and it has managed to stay more or less out of the news until recently. Our conversation with Linda Kaucher will explore the background of the TTIP, how it could affect different facets of British life and its myriad consequences for the ways in which corporations and governments interact. Linda Kaucher speaks at the protest against CETA, which like TTIP, which gives unprecedented power to big businesses. Linda Kaucher has 15 years experience of researching the EU’s so-called ‘trade’ agreements, of which TTIP (US/EU Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership  is now the main focus. She works to expose and oppose the EU’s secretive ‘trade’ agenda. Linda is also a member of StopTTIP, a Europe-wide campaign run by a coalition of over 500 European organizations that currently has over 3 million signatures supporting its campaign. Listen to Linda here: Keiser Report: Guest Linda Kaucher on stopping corrupt trade deals (08Feb14)  Guests are encouraged to come at around 18:00, and the talk will begin at 18:30. The event will feature a 45 minute discussion, followed by a Q&A session where guests are warmly encouraged to ask questions or make their own comments. We look forward to seeing you there.
